U.S., Russia resume talks on Syrian airspace safety

The U.S. and Russia resumed ongoing talks on Thursday concerning flight safety within Syria's airspace.

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said the teleconference meeting included Air Force Major Gen. Steven Shepro, who serves as the Joint Chiefs' vice director for strategic plans and policy, and Elissa Slotkin, assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, who discussed Syrian airspace safety with Russian Defense Ministry representatives.

Both nations had agreed to a memo of understanding on flight safety while both remain active in Syrian airspace.

“The conversation was constructive, and the two sides agreed to continue safety discussions in this format in the future,” Cook said.
