The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) recently announced that acting Associate Administrator for Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation Jay Tilden has been appointed to the position permanently and that Dave Bowman has been named the permanent deputy associate administrator in the same office.

Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation focuses on nuclear and radiological incidents and accidents, with a directive to prepare for, respond to and successfully resolve such events globally.

Tilden previously worked as Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation deputy associate administrator and also has served as director of the Office of Nuclear Threat Science and as intelligence and security adviser to the deputy under secretary for counterterrorism. Tilden also previously worked in the Energy Department (DOE) as director of the Counterterrorism Division in the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence and as an analyst in the Office of Security Policy.

Bowman has been serving as acting Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation deputy associate administrator since early this year and previously was director of the DOE/NNSA Office of Nuclear Incident Response. Prior to his career at DOE/NNSA, Bowman worked as a radiological emergency responder, a senior scientist and a project manager, both at Las Vegas’ Remote Sensing Laboratories and at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
