Florida Petroleum Council welcomes White House effort on offshore energy

Hailing the White House’s recent decision to support offshore domestic energy production, Florida Petroleum Council Executive Director David Mica relayed the potential benefits which President Donald Trump’s executive action would bring to the Sunshine State.

"This administration’s action to prioritize responsible U.S. energy development is welcome news for the consumers and businesses of Florida,” Mica said in a release. “Developing our abundant offshore energy resources in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico is a critical part of a robust, forward-looking energy policy that will secure our energy future, while also boosting important local industries like tourism.”

Mica said the additional access could mean a substantial number of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue, as well as an estimated additional million barrels of oil daily. He indicated that resources in the eastern Gulf of Mexico would be especially worthwhile.

With the nation’s long track record of industry safety and with 80 percent of voters in favor of increasing oil and natural gas production, investing in offshore natural resources can only serve to strengthen both the U.S. and Florida’s economies, Mica said.

The Florida Petroleum Council is affiliated with the American Petroleum Institute (API), representing all aspects of America’s oil and natural gas industry.
