US agencies announce charges against two individuals for conspiring with union officials

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US' former vice president for employee relations was charged this summer with involvement in criminal violations of the Labor Management Relations Act.

Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel L. Lemisch accused Alphons Iacobelli of being involved in a conspiracy that would have paid and provided funding and items to officers and employees of the International Union and United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Workers of America (UAW).

Additionally, Monica Morgan, wife of former UAW Vice President General Holiefield, was accused of conspiracy with Iacobelli to violate the same act.

A number of agencies have joined in the investigation, and multiple individuals made the announcement, including David P. Gelios of the FBI in Detroit, Manny Muriel with the Detroit IRS criminal investigations office and James Vanderberg Ian Burg with the Department of Labor.

"This indictment leaves no question as to the agency’s commitment to seek justice when anyone puts personal financial gain ahead of the best interests of union members," Burg said.

"We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to investigate these types of allegations," Vanderburg said.
