Strikes in Syria and Iraq target ISIL strongholds

Reports from the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve detailed the latest strikes on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Syria and Iraq Thursday. In Syria, eight strikes were conducted by fighter, attack and remotely piloted aircraft. The Virginia-based aerospace and defense contracting company Orbital ATK, Inc. recently established an affiliate in Abu Dhabi, which will support Orbital’s growing defense contracts coming in from the Middle East. Coalition forces complete airstrikes against enemy targets in Syria, Iraq

Coalition forces have conducted 7,603 airstrikes since operations began against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets, U.S. Army Col. Steve Warren told Pentagon reporters yesterday. Service member dies as U.S. Military rescues hostages held in Iraq by ISIL

One U.S. service member died during the operation, which was requested by the Kurdistan Regional Government. U.S. Special Operations Forces supported the Iraqi Peshmerga to rescue 70 hostages at an ISIL prison near Hawijah, Iraq, Peter Cook, a spokesman for the Pentagon, said today. According to the DOD, an airstrike conducted in northwest Syria by coalition forces killed a group of terrorists including Abdul Mohsen Adballah Ibrahim al Charekh, aka Sanafi al-Nasr, a Saudi national and the highest-ranking leader of the network of veteran al-Qaeda operatives known as the "Khorasan Group." Navy's new Virginia-class sub dubbed the Illinois

The U.S. Navy christened its newest Virginia-class attack submarine as the Illinois (SSN 786) in a ceremony at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut on Saturday. The Illinois is the 13th Virginia-class nuclear submarine and the third Virginia-class Block III submarine. The Illinois will have a 34-foot beam and can operate at more than 25 knots submerged.
