President-elect Joe Biden tapped Avril Haines to be the next director of National Intelligence.

Haines is a board of directors member for the Center for a New American Security. The organization’s top leaders congratulated her appointment to the critical U.S. post.

“Avril is one of the sharpest, most talented and hardest-working national security leaders around,” New American Security CEO Richard Fontaine said in a release. “She will be an exceptional leader of the Intelligence Community, and the IC will benefit enormously from her selection.”

Haines is a former deputy director for the CIA and Deputy National Security Advisor under Obama.

“Avril combines so many talents it is hard to know where to start,” Kurt Campbell, chairman of CNAS’ board of directors, said in the release. “Her breadth of knowledge is remarkable, and she enjoys the full confidence of the President-elect. This is an outstanding choice for DNI.”

In her new position, Haines will be leading the nation’s intelligence community and serve under the president for matters of national security.
