In an effort to beef up the nation's cybersecurity, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson did some reshuffling within the agency's National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) this week.

Andy Ozment, previously assistant secretary of the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications, will oversee the National Protection and Programs; and John Felker will run the daily operations of the NCCIC, Johnson announced on Monday.

"As the U.S. government’s 24/7 hub for cybersecurity information sharing, incident response and coordination, the department’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center ... is critical in our efforts to ensure our nation’s cybersecurity," Johnson said.

Additionally, Johnson elevated the NCCIC within the DHS' structure so that the incident reporting line leads directly to him.

"Equally as important, I have also directed the National Protection and Programs Directorate to develop a reorganization plan that will ensure the NCCIC is focused on strengthening our operational capabilities for mitigating and responding to cyber incidents,"  Johnson added.
