Greg R. White has been confirmed as the new executive director of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), effective Dec. 1.

The NARUC Board of Directors began the search for the association’s next chief when Charles Gray said earlier this year that he planned to retire.

NARUC brings together various state public service commissioners to develop fair and forward-thinking regulations for the energy and telecommunications sectors, areas which White has ample experience with since he started working in Michigan’s regulatory system in 1987. White spent five years as that state’s public service commissioner, where he developed economic regulations for private and cooperative electric, gas and water utilities. White also oversaw the telecommunications and for-hire motor-carrier markets.

NARUC Immediate Past President Lisa Edgar welcomed White aboard.

“We are so pleased for Greg White to serve as NARUC’s incoming executive director,” Edgar said. “Greg has over 30 years of related experience and is respected by state and federal officials all across the country. Greg listens, builds consensus and leads. He understands the issues and has an excellent ability to articulate the needs of our members in the context of a highly complex and politically charged regulatory arena.”
