Alion Science and Technology, the Virginia-based and employee-owned defense contracting company, has landed a $25 million Department of Defense (DoD) contract to help the U.S. Army comply with radio-frequency regulations, Alion said on Monday.

The Army and the rest of America’s armed forces rely on wireless communications using the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. Alion will help the Army protect critical RF spectrums from interference while helping it comply with federal mandates for spectrum use, as well as implementation of the president’s National Broadband Policy.

The Army Spectrum Management Office (ASMO) awarded the contract, and Alion, a global engineering, technology and operational solutions company, will help assure safe Army access to the RF spectrum by conducting engineering assessments, research, and analysis to ensure all current and future RF spectrum-dependent systems are clear and safe for ASMO programs. The company’s work will be critical in supporting everything the Army uses RF spectrum communication for, including training and combat operations.

“As the Army moves to support the president’s initiative to expand our nation’s leadership in wireless innovation, Alion’s expert spectrum research and analysis will help ensure reliable, advanced capabilities,” Chris Amos, Alion's senior vice president and manager of the Technology Solutions Group, said. “Our five decades of experience in wireless communications will help support the uninterrupted operation of Army systems with concurrent commercial use while equipping senior Army leaders with the necessary, credible justification for congressional testimony to protect RF spectrum-dependent systems.”
