A Vietnam war veteran and past state commander of Wisconsin's Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter voiced support for the Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act of 2015 and expressed dismay toward detractors in a letter to a D.C. lawmaker.

The FACT Act was introduced in January and would require asbestos bankruptcy trusts to release information on those seeking compensation due to asbestos exposure in quarterly reports, including detailed information regarding the receipt and disposition of claims for asbestos-related injuries, in an effort to target fraudulent claims.

“As a veteran who cares about asbestos victims, it is alarming to me that some groups who purport to represent victims are opposing the FACT Act," Larry Kutschma wrote to U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI).

“Veterans and others who have truly suffered with asbestos deserve to know that the trust funds set up to compensate them will be financially able to do so for as long as there are victims,” Kutschma, wrote. “The FACT Act does this by simply addressing fraud, making sure that only legitimate claims are being paid from various trust funds.”

The bill was introduced by U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX).
