Marine Corps awards $19.6 million Blount Island logistics contract to CGI

The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) has awarded a $19.6 million contract to CGI to provide logistics services to the Marine Corps, the company said recently.

These services will be provided at the USMC Blount Island Command in Jacksonville, Florida, and the work will be focused on six main areas: technical data, prepositioning objective tailoring, logistics planning support, programming support, logistics information support systems and automated-identification-technology (AIT) implementation. Work will also include the USMC’s Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) Program

The contract's term is a maximum of five years, and CGI said it has supported Blount Island operations since 1992.

"Managing logistics at Blount Island Command is an enormous mission CGI is proud to support with the type of advanced technology capabilities needed to meet the command's logistical challenges," Patrick Dougherty, CGI's senior vice president for U.S. Defense Programs, said.

Equipment associated with the MPF program is channeled through Blount Island Command on three-year rotations to receive upgrades, repairs and other maintenance. The facility also serves as the Marines' main logistics-support location for this equipment.
