Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve leaders detailed additional strikes made against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) forces on Tuesday in Iraq and Syria.
In Iraq, in coordination with the Iraqi government, a total of 22 strikes were carried out by bombers, remotely piloted aircraft (drones), and jet fighters. Strikes occurred near Mosul, Ramadi, Fallujah and other areas. Among the targets eliminated were fighting positions, bunkers, command-and-control nodes, and other tactical and strategic positions occupied by ISIL forces.
Officials said a strike consists of single or multiple attacks against a single site or general area. They said a single weapon used against a vehicle and multiple weapons utilized against buildings are examples of strikes.
In Syria, nine strikes were reported near Hawl, Mar’a and Manbij, which eliminated ISIL fighting positions, tactical units, vehicles and a bomb attached to a vehicle. Two more strikes occurred on Sunday, but were not reported until Tuesday, near Mar’a against two ISIL tactical units.
The goal of Operation Inherent Resolve is to eliminate ISIL as a threat to Iraq, Syria and the international community.
