Oak Ridge National Laboratory researcher Satyabrata Sen has won the Sidney D. Drell Academic Award from the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, the Energy Department said this week.

The Intelligence and National Security Alliance brings together various groups operating in the U.S. national security and intelligence communities. The group gives the annual award in recognition of intellectual and academic excellence that contributes to national security projects.

Sen holds a Washington University doctorate in systems and electrical engineering. Sen works at Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a major research facility operated by the U.S. Department of Energy, in the Computer Science & Mathematics Division. Sen is a member of the lab’s Complex Systems Group.

The award honors Sen's work on new technology for the Department of Homeland Security's Intelligent Radiation Sensing System projects, managed by the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office.
