The Pentagon released a summary of a meeting late last week in Brussels between U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's deputy crown prince and minister of defense, during which they discussed ongoing coalition attacks against ISIL, as well as homeland security challenges.

Carter emphasized the effort between both nations to defeat ISIL, expressing appreciation for Saudi Arabia's decision to increase its military commitment, especially in the air campaign. Both agreed that coalition efforts must be intensified. Carter also welcomed Saudi Arabia's plan to establish an Islamic coalition to help fight extremist elements, and both officials discussed how this coalition's objectives can dovetail with the military campaign against ISIL.
