U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, released a statement late last week after President Obama signed the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act.
"In a desperate quest for relevance, the Kim Jong-un regime sought to destabilize Asia and the Pacific region through its nuclear and missile tests," Salmon said. "Congress did not stand by, but responded to these provocations in kind."
Salmon praised Obama for joining Congress to collectively condemn the regime.
“I'm pleased that the president signed this bill today," Salmon said. "Any country that takes food out of the mouths of its citizens to pursue a nuclear program should be punished, and I welcome these sanctions as an important step to curtail this regime's worrisome goal of attaining full nuclear weapons capabilities.”
