The House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials held a hearing on Thursday to discuss reauthorization of the Department of Transportation's (USDOT) safety requirements for pipelines.

The subcommittee, chaired by U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), heard updates about what changes are in the works for the rules, which were last revamped in 2011. The rules were developed with help from federal safety officials, industry stakeholders and those concerned with general public safety.

The hearing, “Reauthorization of DOT’s Pipeline Safety Program,” included testimony from several witnesses, including Andrew Black, president and CEO of the Association of Oil Pipe Lines (AOPL); Marie Therese Dominguez, administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration; Carl Weimer, executive director of the Pipeline Safety Trust; Cheryl Campbell, senior vice president of natural gas at XCEL Energy, representing the American Gas Association; and Donald Santa, president and CEO of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA).
