Lockheed Martin said late last week that it recently was awarded a $7.9 million Air Force Foreign Military Sales contract to further integrate Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) onto Polish Air Force F-16C/D jets.

Poland is the third international customer that has sought JASSMs, and this is the nation's second such contract with the U.S. Air Force. The contract's terms call for a wide range of  certification and aviation services, including logistical support and technical oversight.

JASSM's missiles contain a blast-fragmentation warhead, are precision-guided, and have infrared and digital anti-jam Global Positing System capabilities. So far, the Air Force has placed JASSMs on their B-1, B-2, B-52, F-16 and F-15E aircraft. JASSMs also can be found on the international aircrafts of F/A-18A/B and the F-18C/D.

“Our airworthiness efforts expand and refine JASSM’s employment flexibility on Polish jets, ensuring the Polish Air Force has this vital cruise missile capability," Bob Adams, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's long-range strike systems international program manager, concerning the contract. "JASSM’s high reliability and effectiveness allow the missile to defeat current and future threats in challenging environments.”
