The Defense Department's (DoD) inaugural Professionalism Summit was held recently at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

The Office of the Senior Adviser for Military Professionalism spearheaded the summit as part of an initiative to unite the branches of the armed forces to collaborate and share common issues, best practices and lessons learned to help ensure transparent and accountable leadership.

"Each service has their unique traditions, culture and heritage, but we all share the beliefs that culture is a driver of combat efficiency and that trust is a force multiplier which affects our ability to innovate," Senior Advisor for Military Professionalism Rear Adm. Margaret Klein said. "The right answers will be a little bit different for each service based on their heritage, but I can't overstate the positive impact of fostering cross-service conversations."

In the future, the meetings are expected to be held annually, with hosting rotated each year among the branches of the armed forces.
