DoD announces $50.1 million in university research awards

The Department of Defense (DoD) said recently that it is awarding a total of $50.1 million in research-implementation awards to 176 university researchers at 96 academic institutions through the Defense University Research Instrumentation Program to develop research and training.

The program supports the purchase of cutting-edge equipment to implement research tied to national defense and associated graduate student research training in the areas of advances in materials, structures and manufacturing science; quantum and nanosciences; computing and networks; electronics, electromagnetics and electro?optics; acoustics; neuroscience; fluid dynamics; robotics and autonomous systems; and ocean, environmental and life sciences, and engineering

The DoD's Army Research Office, the Office of Naval Research and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research collaborated to develop the award.

Over 622 proposals were considered. The program's awards range from $53,000 to $1.4 million in this cycle.
