A recent report commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute, "Minority and Female Employment in the Oil & Natural Gas and Petrochemical Industries 2015-2035," said a significant number of the 1.9 million jobs expected to be generated in the oil, natural gas and petrochemical industries will be filled with a high number of women and minorities by 2035.
Approximately 57 percent of the new jobs available will be blue-collar, while 32 percent will be in management and more professional positions. The company's projections indicate that 707,000 of the positions will be filled by African Americans and Hispanics, while 290,000 will be filled by women.
Approximately 25 percent of management and financial positions will be filled by African American and Hispanic workers, projections indicate, while over 50 percent of management and professional fields will most likely be filled by women.
API president and CEO Jack Gerard said high wages will be available for those working in these industries.
"With smart energy policies and leadership, we can help millions of workers, ranging from Americans with high school degrees and post-secondary training to those with post-graduate degrees," Gerard said. "These new high-paying jobs have the potential to be a strong tool in reversing the trends of poverty.”
