The American Coalition for Clean Coal Energy (ACCCE) has expressed disappointment in presidential candidate Secretary Hillary Clinton's recent statement about her energy ideas for the future, specifically that many coal companies would be shut down under her administration, costing miners their jobs.
“Coal-based electricity plays a critical role in how primary voters power their homes,” Laura Sheehan, ACCCE senior vice president of communications, said. “As voters weigh the differences between the candidates, their final decision will be determined largely in part by who they feel supports a more reliable and affordable energy future. Millions of Americans throughout the Midwest and Appalachia rely on coal – whether it pays their salary or cuts their electricity bill – yet Secretary Clinton’s fundamental misunderstanding of this reality proves she’s out of touch.”
Sheehan then referenced statements Clinton made at the end of the most recent Democratic debate.
“Secretary Clinton’s promise to ‘put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business' shows a lack of empathy and common sense, while marking a new level of rhetoric from the Democratic frontrunner’s camp,” Sheehan said. “Millions of voters should consider the consequences of what amounts to a second act for President Obama’s questionably legal and costly Power Plan.”
