Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy, released a statement recently concerning the Interior Department's shift in offshore-drilling policy.
“America’s job creators have become accustomed to the relentless drumbeat of anti-energy policies from the Obama administration," Harbert said. "Today’s announcement that the waters off of our Atlantic coast will be excluded from the next offshore drilling plan is nevertheless remarkable for its catering to fringe constituencies at the expense of energy security and the American economy. The Outer Continental Shelf is the backbone of U.S. oil and gas production, and the announced deviation from the proposed plan will cost us jobs and harm security for decades to come."
Harbert said the chamber plans to help fight the policy change.
"The U.S. Chamber will do everything in its power to challenge this administration’s negligent decision to once again put short-term political interests ahead of our nation’s best interest.”
The U.S. Chamber's Institute for 21st Century Energy aiims to unify lawmakers, commercial interests and the public behind an energy policy that helps the nation prosper while keeping it clean. The Institute works at the local, state, national and international levels through educational and policy-shaping efforts to fulfill its mission.
