Activist group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is taking aim at the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan, which is designed to cut carbon emissions from power plants by mandating that states reduce emissions by switching to cleaner energy sources, such as solar and wind power.
In a statement released late last week, AFP called on state officials nationwide to resist the plan -- currently in legal limbo -- which it said would lead to job cuts and higher energy prices for consumers.
"The Supreme Court recently ruled that states need not comply with the rule because it’s still legally dubious — and now more and more states are realizing that they must protect their constituents from a policy that would hurt the economy and make life more costly for everybody," AFP said.
Several states already have targeted the mandates.
"Last month, three more state attorneys general joined in filing a brief in support of the case against the Clean Power Plan, bringing the total number of states resisting the president’s overreach to 28," AFP said.
