Luminant recently closed on its $1.3 billion acquisition of two combined-cycle natural gas plants in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market: the 1,912 megawatt-capacity Forney Power Plant in Forney and 1,076 megawatt-capacity Lamar Power Plant in Paris.

“These are excellent, well-run plants and very competitive in the ERCOT market," Luminant Senior Vice President for Fossil Generation Steve Horn said. "Of course, the greatest assets at these plants are the people who run them. They do a tremendous job, and we’re so excited about getting to know them better.”

The acquisition, which was closed following regulatory approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas, adds to Luminant’s energy portfolio, which also includes coal, natural gas and nuclear power. The combined capacity of the two plants is enough to power 1.5 million homes.

“We’re delighted to add these two combined-cycle natural gas plants that will enhance our already-diverse generation assets,” Luminant CEO Mac McFarland has said, when the company initially announced the acquisition in November 2015.

The plants’ current work force, 30 to 40 workers at each plant, will continue to be employed under NextEra Energy Resources before they are transferred to employment with Dallas-based Luminant.
