The Department of Defense (DoD) said this week that aircraft from Marine Corps. Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4 have been deployed to Turkey to beef up the coalition's electronic-attack strength against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
EA-6B Prowler aircraft were sent to Turkey's Incirlik Air Base.
“The EA-6B Prowler is a force multiplier continuing to do what it has for the past 45 years: support warfighters flying in the air and fighting on the ground by giving them the electronic communications dominance to ensure a decisive win,” European Command officials said in a statement.
The Prowlers will provide umbrella protection for other coalition aircraft and ground forces. They also can disrupt and intercept communications from enemy forces.
The deployment is expected to last until at least September.
