Dominion Resources recently said it is awarding environmental grants totaling $1 million through its Dominion Foundation to 67 groups over 10 states and Washington, D.C., which will help enhance public spaces and habitats in the areas where the company operates.
"So many great organizations are working to protect natural resources and make our communities more livable and enjoyable," Dominion Foundation President Hunter Applewhite said. "It's very rewarding to support these efforts because they align well with our mission to conserve and promote the health and beauty of the environment in the places we call home."
This year’s grants will fund projects ranging from an urban tree farm in Richmond, Virginia, and the creation of an arboretum trail in Kingwood, West Virginia, to a blue-crab population study in Baltimore, Maryland, and the creation of a new wetlands observation deck for the Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterways History Foundation in Chesapeake, Virginia.
The Dominion Foundation provides environmental grants each year in an effort to protect habitats, enhance open spaces, allow more people to access nature, and inform and educate the public about environmental stewardship. With this year’s grants included, the foundation has provided a total of $26.7 million in support of environmental projects since 2003.
