The Edison Electric Institute announced the finalists late last week for its 2016 Edison Award, which honors organizations that have furthered the electric-power industry, including eight U.S. companies and two international firms.

“Our industry is in the midst of a profound transformation, and this year’s Edison Award finalists demonstrate that innovative and groundbreaking projects are underway across the electric power industry,” EEI President Tom Kuhn said. “These companies are delivering the energy future that customers want by building smarter energy infrastructure, providing clean energy and creating innovative energy solutions.”

The 2016 Edison Award will be the 89th awarded by the institute, which will announce the U.S. and international winners at the annual EEI Convention in Chicago in June. The winners will be selected by a panel of former electric company executives.

This years nominees for the U.S. Edison Award are: American Electric Power, Arizona Public Service Company, Edison International, The Empire District Electric Company, Green Mountain Power, Indianapolis Power & Light Company, Vermont Electric Power Company and Xcel Energy. Internationally, The AES Corporation, a global company, and CESC Ltd., based in Kolkata, India, will be vying for the honor.
