American Enterprise Institute announces two promotions

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) recently announced two promotions: Kevin Hassett will become director of research for domestic policy, and Michael Strain will become director of economic policy studies.

Strain previously served as deputy director and brings a wealth of experience, including time at the U.S. Census Bureau’s Center for Economic Study and the New York Federal Reserve Bank’s macroeconomics research group.

“Michael Strain is an outstanding economist with a gift for management,” AEI President Arthur Brooks said. “AEI is fortunate that he will put both his deep intellect and his keen practical sense to work in this expanded leadership role. I am excited the institute will continue benefiting from Michael’s talent and expertise as he oversees our economics practice.”

In addition to his new director position, Hassett also holds the State Farm James Q. Wilson Chair in American Politics and Culture.

“Kevin Hassett has led the economics department for more than a decade, through major improvement and expansion,” Brooks said. “AEI is very grateful for his great contributions to the institute and excited that those contributions will continue in this new capacity. We are delighted that Kevin will have the opportunity to focus on his own writing and research, in addition to fostering the development of new scholarly programs.”
