Energy-industry advocacy group Energy Citizens recently touted the benefits of natural gas production in Texas, saying it has lowered energy and heating costs, lowered greenhouse gas emissions and improved the state’s job market.
Now the group is urging Congress to take the steps necessary to encourage liquid natural gas (LNG) exports.
Congress recently lifted a decades-old ban on U.S. oil exports, and the House recently passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes LNG-exports measures that would streamline the Energy Department's permit process.
Energy Citizens said recent studies suggest that pursuing LNG exports could result in significant economic benefits for Texas, including an additional $31 billion brought into the state and as many as 155,000 jobs created by 2035. Additionally, Energy Citizens said LNG exports would be beneficial to U.S. allies as well, as it would reduce their dependence on imports from Russia and other nations.
Energy Citizens urges Texans to vote in the upcoming elections and to get in touch with their congressional representatives and find out where they stand on LNG exports.
