API calls for growth-friendly federal energy policies

The American Petroleum Institute recently advocated for federal policies that would promote a continuation of the growth experienced by the American energy industry.

“Over the last decade, our nation has seen oil production surge 85 percent,” API President and CEO Jack Gerard said. “This is largely due to the technological advancements with hydraulic fracturing, combined with horizontal drilling.”

While the renaissance in U.S. oil production has been extremely beneficial to the energy sector, it also has benefitted the environment, Gerard said.

“At the same time, the United States is leading the world in reducing carbon emissions, which are at near 20-year lows,” Gerard said. “We need energy policies that are keeping up with the times, supporting job creation and bringing benefits to consumers.”
