In a continuing series highlighting American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Jack Gerard’s thoughts as he attends the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week, Gerard highlighted the phenomenal increase in natural gas production in Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvania is an example of the progress that our nation has made in energy production, thanks to technological advancements in hydraulic fracturing,” Gerard said in a recent “Jack Gerard’s Energy Thought of the Day” installment.

API showcased the surge in Pennsylvania’s natural gas production, which increased by 2,400 percent from 2005 to 2014, a demonstration of the benefits tied to the country’s energy renaissance. The institute said increases in energy production throughout the country have led to increases in jobs and government revenue.

"Producing and using more clean-burning natural gas has contributed to our nation’s global leadership in reducing carbon emissions, which are near 20-year lows,” Gerard said. “Moving forward, it’s critical to our nation’s success that we pursue energy policies that encourage natural gas production for the benefit of American consumers who saw higher disposable household income in 2015.”
