Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said a bilateral meeting between U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash
Carter and Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman was held while
both were attending the recent United Nations Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial in the United
Kingdom.
They discussed Iran,
the coalition campaign against ISIL and other security challenges in the Middle East, Cook said. They also
discussed areas in which their countries are cooperating for mutual defense,
such as ways to better coordinate on cyber security.
Carter told his Israeli counterpart that he looks
forward to visiting Israel within the year and reasserted the United States' commitment to helping the Middle East nation maintain its military edge in the region.
