L-3 Communications’ Military Code (M-Code)
GPS User Equipment, which boasts improved performance in contested environments
and allows soldiers to better resists enemy jamming and spoofing, recently advanced
through the final step in the government security certification process.
“We are pleased to be the first DoD (Defense Department) contractor to complete security certification for our new M-Code GPS User
Equipment,” L-3 Chairman and CEO Michael Strianese said. “L-3 is ahead of
the technology curve, and we are delivering critical innovations that have
significant applications inside DoD markets and on several U.S. Army
initiatives. Timely delivery of these advancements to the warfighter is essential
as they respond to current and emerging threats on the battlefield.”
M-Code GPS User Equipment was developed within
the Air Force Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) program, led by the Space and
Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) GPS Directorate. The equipment was also tested
by MGUE, with the certification review conducted by an independent government
team. The security standards were put in place to ensure the navigation and
timing solutions provided through the equipment were sound and protected from interference,
as well as to gauge whether the equipment safeguards critical information.
