The Edison Electric Institute (EEI)
recently hosted the first National Leadership Summit for its new Veterans in
Energy initiative, which provides support for military veterans in the energy
industry.
Veterans in Energy developed as a
continuation of EEI’s Troops to Energy Jobs initiative, which worked to
facilitate careers in the electric, natural gas and nuclear sectors for
veterans. Through that initiative, EEI found that veteran employee resource
groups at energy companies help support veterans in their new careers,
spurring the development of Veterans in Energy.
“While Veterans in Energy is a new
initiative, the energy industry has a long history of employing and engaging
military veterans,” EEI President Tom Kuhn said. “Their capabilities and skills
match those required for technical, engineering, leadership, and support positions
in the energy industry. At the National Leadership Summit, veterans who work in
the energy industry are coming together with leaders in the federal government,
the energy industry, and organized labor to support transitions from military
life to successful careers in energy.”
Speakers at the summit, which took place in
Washington, D.C., included such leaders from the energy industry and the federal
government as Dominion President and CEO Tom Farrell, Deputy Secretary of
Energy Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall and Kuhn.
