The Royal Air Force recently extended its
contract with Raytheon U.K. for support services for the Sentinel surveillance
aircraft program with a five-year contract worth $161.8 million.
The contract covers fleet management,
maintenance planning and service, technical and engineering services, obsolescence
management and air vehicle integrity. It also includes overarching service
managements and training, design and procurement and supply services.
"The Sentinel fleet is well-recognized
for the outstanding contribution it has made to military and surveillance
operations around the globe over the last nine years," Raytheon U.K.
CEO Richard Daniel said. "As well as creating new jobs in Broughton, the extension
of the Sentinel fleet will support several hundred highly skilled jobs within
Raytheon and its supply chain, while maintaining world leading expertise in the
customer community."
Work will take place at RAF Waddington and
at Raytheon’s facility in Broughton, where the company recently invested in a
new hanger, with the support of the Welsh government.
The new hangar allows
Raytheon U.K. to provide a full range of capabilities related to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, from design to flight trials. With the new facility, Raytheon U.K. plans to optimize its support of the Sentinel program, reducing
time and costs for 8C deep maintenance checks.
