Fellow Ryan Young recently spoke with Bloomberg BNA about the incoming Trump administration's and Republican Congress’ potential to bring about regulatory
reform.
“I have no idea what President-elect Trump
thinks of [the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS)],” Young said.
The REINS Act would slow the process of finalizing regulations that
bear larger economic impacts. While Trump has vowed to reduce
regulations and faces a presidency with his party in power in both houses of
Congress, the Bloomberg BNA article pointed out that it is not yet clear
whether he would support a measure that would reduce his own rule-making power.
In light of the power Trump
stands to gain if the REINS Act is not passed, Young urged congressional
Democrats to change their votes on the bill. Many of them have been opposed to
it, as it would also have limited the executive powers of President Obama, who
frequently used regulations and executive orders to get around an opposition
Congress.
Now, Young frames the REINS Act as a good option for limiting the
Trump White House in the coming years.
