The United States and Cuba recently signed an agreement that aims to increase their cooperative efforts in law enforcement and the sharing of information.
The bilateral "Law Enforcement and Memorandum
of Understanding" provides for more technical exchanges on enforcement issues affecting both countries, such as money laundering, narcotics, terrorism, fraud and human smuggling.
ABC News reported that
Cuba was eager to get the deal signed and is working on more agreements with the United States.
“In the wake of Donald Trump's presidential election victory, the Cuban
government has launched a last-minute rush of deals with the Obama Administration and U.S. businesses in an attempt to build as much momentum as
possible behind normalization before Obama leaves office,” the network said.
The signees of the
contract were Jeffrey DeLaurentis of the U.S. Embassy and Vice Admiral Julio
Cesar Gandarilla, minister of the Interior of Cuba.
