As Donald Trump begins his presidency, the U.S. Defense Department said it continues to work
diligently and secure ongoing operations.
“The Defense Department is working ... to ensure the process at the
department doesn’t give any enemy of the United States an opportunity,” the department said in a news release.
In addition to a new
leader in chief, the Defense Department has a new Defense
secretary, Gen. James Mattis, who takes over from Bob Work.
While the transition takes
place, the U.S. “has ongoing operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya,
Yemen and other areas, and it cannot simply stop these operations to install
new leaders,” the Defense Department release said.
