The Department of Defense successfully integrated a new electronic health record system into Fairchild Air Force Base this month near Spokane, Washington.
The new electronic health system, MHS Genesis, will keep patients' records up-to-date and be better accessible by other health companies as well. This includes veteran’s associations, which will be able to simultaneously view records at any time.
Fairchild was the first base to integrate and successfully use the system.
“The cutting-edge technology gives patients and health care providers a continuum of care and allows the Department of Veterans Affairs and private-sector health care partners the necessary data to collaborate and make the best possible health care decisions,” Stacy Cummings, program executive office at Defense Healthcare Management Systems, said.
Naval Hospital Bremerton in Bremerton, Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, and Naval Hospital Oak Harbor in Oak Harbor plan to switch to this electronic record system as well.
“We have a responsibility to provide the best possible user experience to our beneficiaries," Cummings said. "We delivered on that responsibility.”
