For the next year, the U.S. Department of Defense along with JB Langley-Eustis Air Force Base, will be testing out a new bio-based grease for vehicle management.
Together, the two are testing out the grease on three vehicles that are all assets to defense missions. During the testing period, they will also be working closely with the Kennedy Center, NASA, the Navy and the Marine Corps. The tests will determine how the bio-based grease complies with the vehicle and the time span it has in the tank.
“The DoD sets the example for civilian agencies by leading the way in green products and sustainability,”  George Handy, Defense Logistics Agency program manager, said of the new grease. “I think it’s very important that the DoD leads the way in these activities, because so many of us are doing this in our own civilian lives, off the installation, and are being subjected to the opportunity to buy sustainable products at home.”
Patrick AFB in Florida, Davis-Monothan AFB in Arizona, and Hill AFB in Utah were also selected to participate in the tests.
“Each base was selected based on its diverse climates, unique mission capabilities and vehicle usage,” a news release said.
