To eliminate redundancy, improve efficiency and ensure consistency, the U.S. Army recently got the go-ahead for a consolidation of several key training components, with its training division authorized to implement modifications to achieve optimum results.
The Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the branch responsible for managing training of Army forces and developing operational guidelines, received confirmation in March of its Program of Record status from Steffanie Easter, acting assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, an Army release said.
Officially tagged as the TRADOC Capability Manager - Army Training Information System (TCM ATIS), the program will serve to dovetail currently separate functions from multiple systems into one, easy-to-use platform. Over time, various Army factions created over three dozen information systems that tended to overlap and repeat information, creating errors.
"We're pleased that the Army recognized the significance for our work to make it easier to plan, prepare, execute and assess training," David Bolt, chief of TCM ATIS' systems development office headquartered in Fort Eustis, Virginia, said in the release.
With its Program of Record status, ATIS falls under the auspices of the Army budget; additionally, it allows the Army greater ability to ensure that the enhanced system meets all requirements by the time of completion, estimated to be in 2021.
The upgraded system will feature training management, scheduling, materials development, and content and resource management.
