Americans for Prosperity lauds White House move to curb agency waste

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) said it supports a White House decision to up the ante for efficiency and responsibility among federal agencies and praised the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce redundancy in federal programs.

Specifically, AFP in a release cited actions by Office of Management and Budget Director (OMB) Mick Mulvaney who expanded on a recent executive order directing agencies to improve “efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability” by issuing a 14-page memo to all agency heads.

“Over the past decade, the federal regulatory state, and, by extension, government bureaucracy, has expanded at an alarming rate,” AFP Vice President of External Affairs Christine Harbin said in the release, commenting on the welcome curtailing of red tape. “This new action from Director Mulvaney and President (Donald) Trump shows promise for their effort to right-size federal agencies. This is another important step on two promises made to the American people: reorganizing the federal government and making reasonable changes to the federal workforce to ensure accountability.”

Referring to the federal government’s previous “administrative overreach,” Harbin said the directive will help to steer the government toward serving citizens without breaching their freedom, adding that “AFP looks forward to working with the administration and Congress to advance these critical reforms.”
