The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently bestowed its top safety performance honor for 2016 to Chevron Pipe Line Company and Portland Pipe Line Corporation at its 68th annual pipeline conference in San Antonio.
Both firms were repeat winners of the API’s Distinguished Safety and Environmental Award: Chevron for the second consecutive year as a large company; and Portland for the second time in four years as a small operator.
“Safety is a core value throughout our entire industry,” API Pipeline Manager David Murk said in an API release. “We are committed to protecting our workers and the environment, and we are building on our track record of ensuring that 99.999 percent of the product that travels through a pipeline arrives at its destination without incident. Chevron Pipe Line Company and Portland Pipe Line Corporation exemplify our industry’s commitment to safety.”
Portland Pipe Line operates out of South Portland, Maine, while Chevron Pipe Line, based in Houston, Texas, is a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation. Chevron Pipe Line oversees the transport of crude oil, natural gas, refined petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas and chemicals nationwide.
“(We) are committed to the construction, operation and maintenance of our pipeline systems in a safe, environmentally sound manner,” Chevron Pipe Line Company said on its website. “Safety is always a top priority in any activity we undertake.”
