U.S. Chamber commends cybersecurity order

In response to President Donald Trump’s recent executive order concerning cybersecurity, U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas Donohue praised the administration for upholding the nation’s security sector.

“With this executive order the new administration has signaled a commitment to bolstering our nation’s cyber defenses and emphasized the important role public-private partnerships can play in doing so, which has long been a top priority of the business community,” Donohue said in a press release.

He said that the chamber anticipates continued collaboration with the administration to reduce security risks, not only partnering with the government on sharing information but also in working effectively together to reduce the challenge of “bureaucratic hurdles and red tape” that could otherwise hinder technological progress for entrepreneurs.

In league with its current objective to promote cyber-safety, the U.S. Chamber recently launched a cybersecurity campaign called “Improving Today. Protecting Tomorrow.”

This initiative strives to advance cybersecurity policies and at the same time, advise small- to mid-sized businesses on the nature of cyber threats and techniques to guard against unwanted acts of system infiltration.

“(We) are pleased the order spotlights increased adherence to norms and deterrence,” Donohue said. “We are eager to work with policymakers to ... position the U.S. as a leader in effective cybersecurity policy.”
