The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) examined the future of U.S.-Vietnamese commerce at a recent Hanoi-based conference.
Government officials joined business leaders from both nations at the conference, titled “The United States and Vietnam in 2017 and Beyond,” where Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang delivered the keynote address and discussions focused on potential avenues of commercial exploration between the two nations, a U.S. Chamber of Commerce release said.
Presentations also covered new developments in health care, financial inclusion and development and encouraging growth for small to medium businesses and IT.
“American companies are excited about opportunities in Vietnam, however they face a number of challenges in the country through market access restrictions and other barriers,” U.S. chamber Senior Vice President for Asia Tami Overby said in the release. “We are working to find concrete ways to strengthen the bilateral trading relationship, including the possibility of a bilateral free trade agreement, in order to support economic growth in both countries. The conversations we’ve had here today are an important part of this process, and we look forward to building on them going forward.”
