For his role in cultivating cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico while serving as Texas governor, U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry recently accepted the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce’s Good Neighbor Award in Washington, D.C.
Conferred during the Good Neighbor Award Gala at the Organization of American States, the honor marked Perry’s impact on the public sector in the U.S. Secretary of Economy of Mexico Ildefonso Guajardo received the Good Neighbor Award for public sector work in Mexico.
“Maintaining a strong bilateral relationship with our neighbor and friend Mexico is not only important, it is vital to the economies of both of our nations,” Perry said in a Energy Department release. “Our relationship was a priority when I was governor of Texas and will continue to be one as Secretary of Energy.”
The U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce has operated for 30 years from its hub in Washington, D.C. to further relations between the two nations. Its Good Neighbor Award program recognizes both public and private sector innovators for their dedication to fortifying rapport.
“I am honored to have been chosen to receive the prestigious Good Neighbor Award and look forward to leading the Department of Energy in strengthening our working partnership with Mexico into the future,” Perry said in the release.
