The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has achieved top scores on the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Annual Small Business Procurement Scorecard, demonstrating success in attaining its contracting goals.
According to a DHS press release, the agency is the largest one to receive an A or A+ on the yearly ranking system developed by the SBA. In 2016, the department granted 37 percent of all its budgeted dollars for contracting to small businesses, surpassing the government’s expectation of 23 percent. This year is the eighth consecutive year that DHS has received an A or higher.
In fiscal 2016, approximately 16,000 companies in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and five territories obtained DHS contracts. Of that total, roughly two-thirds, or approximately 10,500, were small businesses. Additionally, out of those 10,500 small businesses, approximately 2,200 secured their first DHS prime contract.
“It is with profound appreciation for the work of our small business partners and the men and women of this Department that we renew our commitment to continue working closely with the SBA to further develop our leading edge small business program at DHS,” the department said in a press release.
