Lighting Controls Association opens latest technology to California students

The Rosslyn, Virginia-based Lighting Controls Association (LCA) recently teamed up with the California Community College System (CCCS) to instruct tomorrow’s technicians on the latest developments in energy conservation.

CCCS is the nation’s largest higher education system, with 21 million students attending 113 different colleges. By cooperating with the professional association, the state of California stands to gain enormous benefits in reduction of energy consumption and its carbon footprint, specifically via automation in the lighting industry.

Through the alliance, students can take advantage of LCA’s virtual Education Express system, enrolling in free online instruction in lighting control, design and related tasks. The courses are validated by a number of professional associations. CCCS will begin with a pilot program to qualify students for certification.

“(This) strategic partnership … enhances our technical career education mission for both new students and the incumbent workforce,” Irvine Valley College Dean Corine Doughty said in a release.

LCA is a branch of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), the nation’s largest trade association of electrical equipment manufacturers.

“We’re very excited about this new partnership with CCCS to educate tomorrow’s electrical workforce in California,” LCA Chairman Gary Meshburg said in the release.
