The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s recent dual nomination of Neil Chatterjee and Rob Powelson to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) won praise from the American Petroleum Institute (API), which deemed both candidates “well qualified.”
Chatterjee, an Indian-American attorney, has served as senior energy adviser to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY); while Powelson is Pennsylvania’s public utility commissioner. API’s midstream and industry operations group director Robin Rorick said in a release that the nominations represent progress for FERC.
“Today’s action brings U.S. consumers, workers and the environment closer to fully realizing the benefits of the U.S. energy renaissance,” Rorick said in the release, noting that private investment in U.S. energy involves over $1 trillion and could potentially support approximately 1 million jobs between now and 2035. “Today’s action brings U.S. consumers, workers and the environment closer to fully realizing the benefits of the U.S. energy renaissance.”
Rorick encouraged the full Senate to prioritize the action and expedite approval of both Chatterjee and Powelson.
