Tennessee National Guard soldiers and airmen, working in tandem with Tennessee’s Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Tennessee State Guard and other agencies, recently participated in the annual joint Tennessee Maneuvers (TNMAN) exercise, executing cybersecurity scenarios.
"TNMAN exercises one of the three key focus areas of the National Guard — domestic operations," Lt. Col. Jeffrey Brown, G3 Directorate of Military Support of the Tennessee Army National Guard, said in a news release. "Interagency coordination during domestic operations is built on relationships, and the Tennessee National Guard works with our state partners throughout these exercises."
TNMAN focuses on specific areas each year for disaster preparedness training, with this year's program highlighting power grid protection. Brown said in the release that outreach, training and exercises provide a foundation to establish inter-agency rapport. Other agencies range from corrections authorities to military police, depending on the scenario.
"It enables our state partners and ourselves to better understand each other's capabilities and limitations, making us better equipped to handle real-world situations that occur within the state," Brown said. "Our internal education of the domestic framework will speed our response and ultimately mitigate suffering for our fellow citizens in a time of crisis. These are excellent exercises [and] build confidence in our members and competency in domestic response missions."
